In Ottawa, the ideal time to schedule your pool opening service is in May or early June, when the risk of frost has passed and the weather begins to warm up. Opening too late can result in stagnant water, algae growth, and harder-to-clean conditions; while opening early helps you enjoy your pool as soon as the season begins. Booking your pool opening service ahead of time also helps you secure your preferred date before demand peaks.

Yes. As part of our pool opening checklist, we test and balance your pool’s water chemistry to ensure safe swimming conditions. This includes checking pH levels, chlorine, alkalinity, and calcium hardness, then adjusting them as needed. Properly balanced water helps protect your pool liner, equipment, and swimmer comfort, while preventing algae growth and cloudy water. Our technicians bring the right knowledge and tools so your pool is swim-ready from day one. All required chemicals can be purchased directly from GBI Pools at the time of opening.

During our pool opening service, we reconnect and test pumps, filters, heaters, and circulation systems. We check for leaks, blockages, or early signs of wear and tear so issues can be addressed before they turn into costly repairs. Our goal is to catch problems early, give you a full picture of your pool’s health, and ensure all equipment runs efficiently for the summer season. As licensed gas contractors, we also offer annual maintenance for gas and propane heaters to ensure safety and compliance.
